DECAMERON DAY 7: REVENGE
World Premiere Production: April 6 - May 6, 2006 at The Off Center (Austin, TX)
created by Rude Mechs | written by Kirk Lynn | directed by Shawn Sides
featuring: Lowell Bartholomee, Robert Fisher, Thomas Graves, Heather Hanna, Lana Lesley, Jason Liebrecht, Michael Mergen
design: Laura Cannon (costume), Robert Fisher (sound), Michael Mergen (video), Stephen Pruitt (lighting), Leilah Stewart (scenic)
This original production by Rude Mechs is an investigation of revenge tales and the deeper culture of revenge with a look at how we tell stories today. Inspired by Giovanni Boccaccio's "Decameron", soap operas, and an actual haunting of Rude Mechs' performance space, The Off Center, this multi-disciplinary piece serves up a bitter ghost, fresh bread, and revenge to an unsuspecting audience gathered at our table for a dish best served cold.
Production Support
This project was supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts; a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts, and by the City of Austin through the Cultural Arts Division and Sweetish Hill Cafe and Bakery.

Austin Chronicle Review
" delightfully random, ridiculously creative...flat out hilarious" - www.austinist.com
"emotional, self-reflective...even more soap opera than the real thing" - Austin American-Statesman
"a ceremony of mercy, a cleansing ritual rich with mythic resonance and good will...They say revenge is a dish best served cold, but the Rudes have put the lie to that. It is, it turns out, best served with bread and wine, a toast, a tango, a laugh, and a flash of fire."
