RED CANS

Created by Rubber Repertory
directed by Josh Meyer and Matt Hislope
Presented as part of Rude Mechs' Rude Fusion Series

Run for your lives!
Rubber Repertory and Rude Mechs invite you to witness a new species of performance.

“Rubber Repertory prevail as brave soldiers in surreal and symbolic theatre.”
- The Austin Chronicle

Instructions for “Red Cans”:

1. Find a group of Austin's best physical performers.

2. Seal them inside small red containers that inhibit their movement, vision, and breathing.

3. Store for three months in a cool, dark place and never above 95 degrees.

4. When opening canned goods, always check for spoilage. If any mold or fungus seems to appear (or if there's a strange discoloration or smell), our recommendation is - when in doubt, throw them out.

The RED CANS get opened on August 3rd.

WARNING: “Red Cans” contains gunfire and live animals. Because of the unique nature of this performance, audience members are advised to wear tightly fitting shoes and refrain from using any perfumes, colognes, or strong deodorants.

FEATURING: Jessica Rae Akin, Kelli Bland, Michelle Flanagan, Esther Garcia, Rosaruby Glaberman, Ashley Gloor, Kiera Griffin, Matt Hislope, Chelsea Hunter, Traci Koesis, Josh Meyer, Andy Smith, Heather Whisenhunt, and Ramona the Dog. Costume Design by Hilah Stewart.

ABOUT RUBBER REPERTORY
Josh Meyer and Matt Hislope originally met in Lawrence, Kansas, where they staged a musical feeding frenzy, a one-woman burlesque, and invasions of public places with large-scale musical numbers. Since relocating to Austin and forming Rubber Repertory, they’ve presented award-winning productions of Holes Before Bedtime, At Home With Dick, Mister Z Loves Company, and Still Born in a Trunk, and taken two steps forward in their long-term effort to stage the complete works of Wallace Shawn. In the Fall of 2005, Rubber Rep took to the high seas, performing as the Mister Z Dancers aboard the Xingolati Groove Cruise. Visit www.rubberrep.org.

ABOUT RUDE FUSION
Rude Mechs is proud to launch “Rude Fusion” –  a new venture designed to develop deeper relationships with some of Austin's finest theatre artists by co-producing their work and offering our support throughout their creative process.  Rude Fusion will provide Austin artists the freedom to take artistic risks, explore new ideas and collaborate with an even greater number of artists.  We are proud to kick off the series in August with Rubber Repertory Company (Matt Hislope, Josh Meyer) and their new play “Red Cans.”  We look forward to continuing the series by hosting Pro Arts Collective’s “Black Arts Movement Festival” in October.
