"GET YOUR WAR ON"
The New Yorker
January 22, 2007

The characters in David Rees’s comic strip “Get Your War On” are proudly liberal water-cooler skeptics in ties and sweaters, equally beleaguered and amused by the day’s news and never without a succinctly glib response. In this adaptation by Kirk Lynn (“Major Bang”), the Austin-based company Rude Mechanicals stages a gleeful retrospective of Rees’s work from the past six years, employing a clever system of overhead projections to bridge the gap between theatre and three-panel comics. Operation Enduring Freedom, Terri Schiavo, freedom fries—they may be yesterday’s headlines, but Rees treats them with a wry humor that manages to feel both fresh and pointed.
