TOURING MARCH 2009
"The Method Gun... is nothing short of the best work this theater collective has done in its 13 years as it has carved out its well-respected reputation on the international indie theater scene."
"This is the Rude Mechanicals doing what they do best: crafting a rich series of stunning and surprising visual moments, lacing those moments with kinetic physical movement and wrapping it all together with a script both lyrical and cheeky."
- Jeanne Claire van Ryzin, Austin-American Statesman

IN THE HOPPER |
THE LEASH
a western operetta
book and lyrics by Kirk Lynn
music and lyrics by Peter Stopschinski
Work-in-Progress presentation: April 2009
World Premiere Production: September 2009
The Leash will be a series of multi-disciplinary performances presented in a festival format and all inspired by the creation of an original western operetta that tells the story of a father who ties his son to the last mountain lion in Texas. As the ensemble collaborates around this story, we will create music, dance, web, video, visual art and live performance that will come together in their exploration of the Western genre and its responsibility for the world's current state of affairs, including environmental trauma, societal violence, and the crisis of contemporary gender identity. The Leash will stretch our company to invent a new way of offering live performance to an increasingly "wired" art consumer.
The Leash is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts. Rude Mechs is supported by the Texas Commission on the Arts and the City of Austin through the Cultural Arts Division
